Lord knows on a slow news day you can always look to the UK for examples of a legal system that simply, doesn’t have a clue.

Bug death trial jury discharged

The gist of if for those of you who disdane pop-up windows: Gillian Beckingham was/is responsible for maintanance for several buildings owned by a local council in England. At one building, the ill fated Forum 28, had a contract up for renewal to look after the air-conditioning unit. Gillian, for reasons she has never reveiled,
cancelled said contract to ensure the unit was ‘clean’ and ’safe’.

Now here comes the interesting part.  After cancelling the contract, the former company that did the works sent several letters warning Ms. Beckingham of the dangers swirling around in an air unit that was not properly serviced! Did this sway our killer? No.

Finally, the other shoe dropped in July 2002. Water droplets from the outtake valve started spraying onto the unsuspecting public, bringing death and misery for scores of innocents. All told, 7 people lost their lives, and 172, yes 172 people were hospitalized.

While the jury brought down the hammer on the hapless Beckingham for the ominous sounding ‘breaching the health and saftey at work act’, they were unable to find her guilty for manslaughter.

This is a sad sad joke. This country cannot seem to run their own courts with any sense of humanity or justice. Christ, being found guilty of the health and saftey at work act sounds like the fry cook at McDonalds got busted for not washing his hands, or somebody parking in a handicapped space at the hospital.

It’s just worthless if you cannot put someone away for almost murdering 200 people.
