No, the title is no joke, even I’m not creative enough to imagine that a country with an estimated population of 43 million, of which 90% are Catholic, could somehow be swept up in an Islamic revolution.

But yes, our dear Dick seems to believe the Islamic tide will begin here.

The terrorists believe that by controlling an entire country, they will be able to target and overthrow other governments in the region, and to establish a radical Islamic empire that encompasses a region from Spain, across North Africa, through the Middle East and South Asia, all the way to Indonesia.

Does he somehow think that waves of crazed Muslims will suddenly wash ashore and overthrow the government, thus changing a predominantly Christian society into a pious bunch of Allah-chanting hordes overnight?

Well, maybe he’s right but just has his dates mixed up. In the days of Alhambra and Grenada, Spain was in fact run by a Muslim sultanate, but they were not in fact crazed, or radical; in fact, they were quite progressive towards the arts and architecture, as well as being tolerant of other religions too.

Sadly, for Dick Cheney, this happened over 500 years ago (1238-1492).

So, if the Bush administration could get something like that wrong, you don’t think that maybe, just maybe, the intel on Iraq could be similarly flawed?

Naaa.

So if you believe Cheney, then his next statement will make perfect sense too:

Some have suggested that by liberating Iraq from Saddam Hussein, we simply stirred up a hornet’s nest. They overlook a fundamental fact: We were not in Iraq on September 11th, 2001 — and the terrorists hit us anyway.

Whatchyatalkin’aboutWillis?

Does that make sense to you? Man, I know its been ages since I’ve been drunk but that is like the Chewbacca Defense, it just don’t make no sense.

Memo to Cheney, the terrorists were not in Iraq! Not before 9/11, and certainly not after. Don’t believe me? Ask the bi-partisan 9/11 Commision, they agree with me as does virtually everyone else on the planet NOT involved with your Administration.

Not even after we invaded Afghanistan did the terrorists go to Iraq. Why would they? Saddam hated them even more than we did. Saddam, being a secular dictator, had little use for highly religious freedom fighters who wanted to overthrow every government in the region and install puppet taliban-inspired governments.

It pains for me to say, but does the Vice President NOT understand the fundamental issue here? Which is, the terrorists, came into the power vacuum WE created. The terrorists, would NOT be in Iraq, had we not invaded.

He did say one thing that is true, the current situation in Iraq is like a hornet’s nest.
