Pity football legend George Best.

The guy is struggling to live in a London hospital, beset by all manner of illnesses and internal bleeding. If it were anyone else, friends and family would be close by hoping and praying for a miracle.

The British Press? Hell, they can’t wait for the poor bastard to die! To help urge the grim reaper, they’re even splashing loving tributes and obituaries OF SOMEONE WHO IS STILL ALIVE!

Witness, The Sun who exclaim:

BEST: THE END

Or how about The Daily Express:

Football legend George Best will die within hours, his consultant said.

Or, could the jubilant Standard be beaten by saying:

Hope gone for beloved Red Devils icon Best

Good Lord, what kind of world do we live in when an idiot like me has to ask the question: why are people so rushed to judge Best dead before he actually dies??

Don’t get me wrong, I FULLY appreciate that his situation is grave, and that he has a difficult struggle ahead of him to stay alive. But good lord, give the man a chance. Give the man your charity. Give him some hope to stay alive for one more day.

Personally, I have no emotional attachment to Mr. Best. I am not a big fan of football, though I can appreciate he did some magical things on the pitch. But even when the Pope was frail, and on death’s door, I didn’t see the shear VOLUME of press talking about how he would be dead within hours. Its almost as if the press is trying to jump on the Best eulogy bandwagon, before the damn thing is ready to go.

George, while your an alcoholic who has done virtually everything you can do to kill yourself with booze, I for one, hope you make it one last day….just to f*** off the press!
