Site5 & Wordpress 2.0, fast and smokin!
For years I’ve proudly touted my home server, quietly tucked away underneath the stairs in my kitchen. With the exception of a HD error (which was my fault as I didn’t have RAID), the server has been a model of stability and (decent) speed.
That all changed after my site got hit with the business end of what is called the Slashdot affect. Overnight, my server got hit by over 40k users (though, according to Alexa, far more tried to get in). A few weeks later, my line started to crumble to the point of having downtime almost on a daily basis. Was it down to the increased usage? Was it down to my ISP being bought out by a larger competitor? Was it all down to me being an evil bastard in a former life? Maybe none. Maybe all three?
In any case, I’ve swallowed my pride and moved Idiotabroad over to Site5 in the US. I was nervous as hell about the move, but I shouldn’t have. Site5, so far, has been flawless; and I’m sure you’ll agree that the speed is much improved.
I’ll be sure to post a review in a month or so. Over the next few days, I’ll be migrating the rest of my domains (www.thepokerstuds.com and www.altsearch.com).
